La Distillerie

The Fred Caillou and gold fish crackers

Montreal is notorious for its beautiful neo-gothic architecture and mouthwatering food. What foreigners do not know is that the city is also home to many wonderful bars and pubs. La Distillerie is surely one of them; this place is quite well-known among locals. One interesting feature is that they do not sell any of type of food, just alcohol. Furthermore each drink comes with a complementary jar of goldfish crackers – quite a reminiscence of childhood days.
I ordered the Fred Caillou in large at a hefty price of $17. To my surprise, the mason jar was quite large and contained more alcohol than any other mixed alcoholic beverage I know. The grand ol’ daddy consists of 4 oz. of Skyy vodka, Galliano, Curacao, lime juice, syrup, and 7up. Fred Caillou tasted increasingly refreshing and the succulent sweetness of the juice really stands against the bitterness of the vodka. Furthermore the goldfish cracker added a certain delightful punch to my wonderful experience at La Distillerie.
